MELCA-Ethiopia launch new project in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) Sheka zone.
The project title is enhancing resilience of Sheka community to climate Change through strengthening conservation of UNESCO Sheka forest biosphere reserve.
In the earlier MELCA-Ethiopia worked in the Sheka zone and shown a visible change especially MELCA’s has a big role on facilitating, nominating and adoption of Sheka forest biosphere reserve to register by UNISCO.
MELCA-Ethiopia has conducted project launch workshop on Sheka zone Masha town on April 24, 2021 with the attending of stakeholders Sheka zone administration, Masha and Andracha woreda administrator and officers.
On the conducted workshop has presented general project concept and 2021 physical year action plan to the participant. Based on the presentations the general discussion plate was opened and led by the Sheka zone administration vice head and Sheka zone Finance department head in collaboration.
As they said MELCA was the known, which has a long lasting good historical and fruitful NGO in the entire Sheka zone and they welcomed with the new project. The new project is expected to give a strong support to marginalized groups like Menja community and “shakko” who lives in Andracha woreda.
In line with the government policy, the new project planned a good activity in income generating activities (IGAs) especially to minimize the unemployment of youths. And the participant expecting the new project play a warm role in case of strengthening of SFBR management plan and promotes Sheka Forest Biosphere Reserve as a tourist site and works Eco-tourism activities.
