Movement for Ecological Learning and Community Action (MELCA-Ethiopia) is a non-governmental and not for profit organization legally registered to work in Ethiopia.  MELCA-Ethiopia, envision to see a healthy and prosperous people who preserve their Bio cultural diversity.  To this end it has a mission of working for healthy ecosystems, resilient communities and critical young generation through developing and institutionalization innovative approaches and experience.

MELCA-Ethiopia secure financial support from its partner organization, Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) for the implementation of a 5 year project entitled “Building the Resilience of Bale Communities and materializing adaption to climate changes through mobilizing the community for ecosystem rehabilitation and improving livelihoods” located in Bale zone.  Accordingly MELCA-Ethiopia invites interested and competent applicants for the following post.

Position:-  Livelihood Officer

Minimum requirements:

  • Holding M.Sc. or B.Sc in Plant Science, Agricultural Economics or Agricultural Extension/Rural Development/Development Studies. In addition having design & implementation follow-up knowledge in Business and cooperative management, market creation, Eco-friendly IGA options.
  • At least 4 years’ experience for M.Sc. or 6+ years’ experience for B.Sc holders in the areas of design, implementation of locally viable alternative eco-friendly IGA, especially in the areas of NTFP based livelihood that help reduce pressure  on natural resources and bring about co benefits  to marginalized group.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good interpersonal skill and ability to work in team and independently including at times in challenging environment as well as having a coordination and team building ability.
  • Having NGO experience is an asset / advantage.

 

The place of work for the above position will be Dinsho Town, Bale Zone,

The following qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.

  • Knowledge of local language (oromiffa) is a requirement.

Remuneration: – Salary is negotiable.

Terms of employment: Full time contractual employment for one year with high possibility of renewal.
