Vacancy Announcement for Wolemera and Bale Project Offices

MELCA-Ethiopia is an Ethiopian Resident Charity Organization who works for a healthy ecosystem, vibrant culture and improved lives of communities in Ethiopia through developing and spreading innovative methods.   Accordingly MELCA-Ethiopia invites interested and competent applicants for the following posts.

 

Position:-  1. Wolemera  project Branch Office Coordinator

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating day to day activities of the project office
  • Responsible for planning, monitoring progress and reporting of the project activities as described in the project document
  • Managing budget allocated for project activities and running the project office
  • Representing MELCA in dealings with relevant woreda sector offices
  • Communicating with stakeholders in the project area and ensuring their support and collaboration where needed
  • Mobilize target community for active engagement in project implementation
  • Supervising project office staff

Minimum requirements

  • Holding BSc Degree in the areas of Agro Forestry, Agricultural economics, Environmental science, Environmental management, project management or any other related fields from a recognized University.
  • Having a comprehensive understanding of Agro ecological practices.
  • Five years of experience out of which at least 3 years should be relevant experience in project management, coordination, and community mobilization.
  • Having skills in the use of computer-word processing, Excel, power point. Having skills in the areas of GPS and GIS technologies and mapping will be considered an added value.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and quality report writing skill
  • Good interpersonal skill and ability to work in team and independently including at times in challenging environment as well as having a coordination and team building ability.
  • Knowledge of the local language (Oromiffa)
  • Experience in NGOs is an asset

 

Project is based in Holeta Town of Finfinne Special Zone of Oromia Region

Position: – 2.  Wolemera project Branch Office Agronomist /Agriculturalist

Major duty and responsibility

  • Responsible to mobilize community to organize SHGs and IGAs. Provide training and technical support in Agro ecology and Livelihoods, etc
  • Implement and lead all agro-ecological principles, approaches and body of knowledge related to soil conservation, promotion of indigenous knowledge, reduce forest and soil degradation and strengthen the revival of local seed verities and crop production techniques
  • Ensure that farmer’s food systems go in harmony with nature and persistently create awareness on sustainable use and environmental resilience agricultural practice
  • Work on experiment field jointly with farmers on high yielding seeds, disease resistance, adaptation to soil and nutritional value
  • Support farmers in analyzing existing alternative energy sources and create a mechanism to support famers to have clean, accessible and fuel efficient energy source based on the local context
  • Mobilize community for environmental rehabilitation and conservation works planned in the project

 

Minimum requirements:

  • BA in Agriculture, Natural resource management or related field of studies
  • At least 3 years of experience in related fields, particularly in NGO background is advantageous
  • Experience in promotion of Agro-ecology practice in a rural context
  • Good ability of report writing and communicating in English
  • Knowledge of local language (Oromiffa)

 

Position: – 3.  Wolemera project Branch Office Accountant

Major duty and responsibility

  • Maintain financial policy and financial control systems
  • Participate on project annual budget preparation
  • Ensure that all payment request are made according to project agreement and appropriate budget;
  • Reconcile monthly project financial record
  • Follow up project budget implementation and report to head office
  • Maintain fixed asset of the project

 

Minimum requirements:

  • First Degree in Accounting
  • At least 2 years relevant in experience
  • Basic computer skill (MS word and Excel etc )

 

Position:-  4. Bale project Branch Office Coordinator

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating day to day activities of the project office
  • Responsible for planning, monitoring progress and reporting of the project activities as described in the project document

Remuneration: – Salary is negotiable.

Terms of employment: – Full time contractual employment for one year with high possibility of renewal.
